One More Question

Sir or ma’am
I’m from the Department of Questions
I am
holding up my badge to your peephole
I’ve been knocking
I have some simple questions like:
Where were you last night?
Sir or ma’am
I can see the shadows of your feet behind the door
I am
Not a fool.
I have some simple questions like:
Who will you be tonight? The kind of person who helps the authorities, or not ?
Ma’am or Sir
This is not a social call
I have come here for answers.
Answers to questions. I don’t need any more questions.
I have this briefcase here full of questions. So I don’t need more questions from you.
I have some simple questions like:
Aren’t you ashamed of all the things you’ve done?

The Meeting of Two Minds

She asked me if I knew where the soul resides.
Is it behind your eyes? Or in between your thighs?
She said she found the whole concept just staggering
And all her research led her no closer to understanding
She asked me if I knew what a spirit even was
All the books that lined her walls provided her with no answers
The clergy seemed no closer than the poets
She read and ranked the books, shelved them highest to lowest
We argued over brandy until we saw the sunrise
She was a skeptic, when I held my own she seemed surprised
She made for me a stack of texts
And said that tonight we would put to rest the myth of the self.
As the night went on, we threw more wood on the fire
The stack of books by my side only got higher
The mind cannot be more than what the human head contains
we’re not wind up dolls; you can’t bootstrap a brain
Bicameral, tricameral, the structures of schizoids
Her positions, she admitted, made us into no more than androids
And she muttered about what all she had destroyed
And she pulled to a tilt a tome from Freud

As Iron sharpens iron so this iron sharpens me
I will not go quiet, nor will I bend a knee
I serve only one mistress though she’s cruel as can be
Sure, she’s a bitch,
but she made me rich
Oh, god, I love the sea!
Five years in still trying to get his landlegs
Sleepin outside with society's dregs
Says he’s rich but hear how the man begs:
Got any spare change?
Wanna hear something strange?
He says worse things happen at sea!
He used to work the rutter
Now he sleeps in the gutter
and folks call him a nutter for the stories that he tells
of a deep sea diver
left not one survivor
when he lost his air line-er
and brought down the sails
Sure, she's a bitch
But she made me rich
Oh, god I miss the sea!

Love Potion Number Four

I believe in placebos, baby.
I’ve been swindled, I’ve been had
By the finest charlatan
The world has ever known or ever
Will
A flimflam man of the finest caliber - his mustache the most stylish handlebar
O! a scam of such
prodigious skill
Now I’ve not so much as succotash to show
He took me aside and looked in my eyes
Asked what of his wares were of interest
I told him of unrequited love
He said he had a potion of
Love Potion Number Four! Let’s see a lady try to ignore
A handsome young man once she’s
had a drop of this stuff.
Now I’ve not so much as succotash to show

So I guess we’ll have to stay
Under this umbrella all day
I guess we’ll just have to hang around
Until the sun goes down
And if I can’t find my keys you might
Have to lay here with me all night

He's Dead Jim Lexington, Kentucky
We have sworn our musical talents to exonerating our beloved uncle James. It is too late to save his life, but we still
might clear his name. Thank you for supporting this noble cause - It would be already lost without you.
